How do I register vehicles?
All first time vehicle registrations, new or used, must first begin at the town office.
Motor Vehicles
To register a new or used motor vehicle, you will need to bring the following:
- Bill of Sale (if private party sale) OR Sales Receipt (if purchased from a dealer);
- Previous Title from the seller OR buyers copy of the Title Application;
- Monroney label or window sticker on a brand new never been owned vehicle;
- Current insurance card
- Current mileage
If you wish to transfer your plates from another vehicle, please bring the registration from the previous vehicle.
The town will first collect excise tax for your vehicle and then begin start the registration process for you. If you are not transferring plates from another vehicle, you must complete the registration process at the BMV.
If you are renewing a registration, you can do so online at the Maine BMV Rapid Renewal website. You may also re-register your vehicle at the town office. You will need proof of current insurance and your current mileage.
ATV or Snowmobiles
To register an ATV or snowmobile, you will need to bring the following:
- Sales Receipt (dealer purchase) OR Bill of Sale (private party)
- VIN OR Serial Number
If you wish to transfer your registration from another ATV or snowmobile, you must also bring the previous registration from the vehicle you’ll be transferring from.
All ATV's and Snowmobile registrations Expire June 30th
If you are renewing a registration, you can do so online at the Maine Inland Fisheries ATV and Snowmobile Registration website. You may also re-register at the Town Office.
Boat Registrations
To register a boat, you will need to bring the following:
- Sales Receipt (dealer purchase) OR Bill of Sale (private party)
- VIN OR Serial Number
If you wish to transfer your registration from another boat, you must also bring the previous registration you’ll be transferring from.
If you are renewing a registration, you can do so online at the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries Boat Registration website. You may also register at the Town Office.
