NOTICE

The Code Enforcement Officer will be on leave from 3/26-4/11. During this time, no building permits or plumbing permits will be issued. Only emergency plumbing and septic work may be performed provided that a permit is filed immediately after the work is completed. If you need a septic or plumbing inspection completed during this time, please call the Town Office at (207) 273-2421 and ask for the number of the on-call LPI to schedule an inspection.

The Codes and Planning Department is responsible for ensuring the character and nature of Warren remains inviting and welcoming to all residents, present and future.

Code Enforcement Officer

The Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for issuing all building, plumbing, and septic permits. Additionally, they act as a resource for citizens with questions about ordinances, concerns about potential violations, and assistance with planning and zoning issues. The CEO also oversees and are primary enforcement for Shoreland and Land Use Violations. If ever you are in doubt about what is allowed, please reach out and our office would be more than happy to provide guidance.

Town Planner

The Town Planner is responsible for the duties associated with town planning, including development review, drafting of land use plans, comprehensive plans, land use ordinances, short and long-term planning, grant writing, and other special project as needed.

The Planner also provides the staff support and leadership associated with town capital improvement and economic development planning. They serve as technical staff for the Planning Board, Municipal Advisory Committee (formerly TIF Committee) and other committees as directed. The Town Planner also works in conjunction with the Code Enforcement officer and reports to the Select Board and Town Manager

Common Questions

What projects require a building permit?
Buildings over 100sqft, decks, porches, additions and alterations, mobile home placements, movement of structures, demolition of structures and solar installations require permits. We do not require permits for roofs or fences.

What do I need for a rental?
All rentals, whether they are short term or long term, are required to be inspected once every 5 years to ensure that safe and adequate housing is available. The inspections focus mostly on safety issues, like smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and ensuring that there are safe means for ingress/egress in the event of an emergency. Additionally, our inspections ensure that our rentals can maintain adequate heating during the winter months and that all appliances are in good working order.

How do I report suspected violations?
If you have concerns about potential ordinance violations, please contact the Code Enforcement Office or stop by to report your concern. All report sources are confidential.
