SEEKING NOMINATIONS: BOSTON POST CANE

ATTENTION ALL CITIZENS OF WARREN

The Town of Warren is currently seeking a Boston Post Cane Honoree.  The Boston Post Cane originated on August 2, 1909 when Mr. Edwin A. Grozier, Publisher of the Boston Post newspaper, forwarded to the Board of Selectmen in 700 New England towns a gold-headed ebony cane.  He requested that it be presented with the compliments of the Boston Post to the oldest male citizen of the town, to be used by him as long as he lives (or moves from the town), and at his death handed down to the next oldest citizen of the town.   In 1930 this honor was extended to include women as well.

To qualify, the Warren resident must:

  • Be 90 years or older
  • Be a full time resident (resident is defined as “one who has resided at a fixed, permanent and principal home”)
  • Have resided in the Town of Warren for 10 years or more

If you or a loved one qualify for this distinction and wish to be nominated as the Boston Post Cane Recipient, please FILL OUT THE NOMINATION FORM (see link) and return to the Town Clerk, Corinne Michaud, either in person at 167 Western Rd., or via email: clerk@warrenmaine.org

Once a candidate has been chosen, Board of Selectmen will respectfully request a meeting to present the recipient with the cane and a plaque to commemorate this distinction.
