Cemetery Locations

The Town of Warren is responsible for the care and management of 19 cemeteries, which serve as important places of remembrance, local history, and quiet reflection. Our Cemetery Sexton oversees maintenance, recordkeeping, and policy to ensure these sacred spaces are preserved with dignity and respect.

Blake Cemetery

Located in North Warren at the intersection of Route 235 and Western Road. Surrounded on all sides by stone walls, and Post Cemetery to the west, Blake Cemetery was used starting in the 1820's and is open to burials today. No lots are available for purchase.

Counce Cemetery

Located in South Warren.  Directions:  Route 97 south from Route 1, about .2 mile, then turn right on to Peterborough Rd. The cemetery is about .2 miles on the right side of the road.

Counce Cemetery was also know as the South Warren Cemetery and the oldest stones date to the early 1830's. The cemetery is open to modern burials and has lots available for purchase.

Cushing Cemetery

Located on the west side of North Pond Road, approximately 1.6 miles north of Route 1. Used since the 1840's, it has expanded several times and is open to modern burials. There are no lots available for purchase at this time.

Echo Cove - State of Maine Prison Cemetery

This cemetery is located near the shore of Copeland Creek, east of the prison farm barracks off of Rt. 97. Burials are under the jurisdiction of the State of Maine correctional facility.

Fairview Cemetery

Located on the south side of the Patterson Mill Road, about .5 mile east of Route 131 and opposite from the intersection of the Highland Road. There is a gravel avenue between Fairview and Newcomb Cemetery to the west. Used since the mid-1800's it is open to modern burials and has lots available for purchase.

Leonard Cemetery

Located on the north side of Patterson Mill Road, directly across from Fairview Cemetery. Leonard Cemetery was built on land of John Leonard, a Civil War Veteran.  The cemetery was expanded in 2024 and the entrance was relocated in 2025. Used since the late 1800's, it is open to modern burials and has lots available for purchase. 

Mt. Pleasant Cemetery

Located in East Warren.  From Route 90, turn north on Tolman Road about .1 mile to the cemetery on the left. Used as a burial ground starting in 1843, it has been know as the Bisbee, Tolman, Simmons and Rabbit Town Cemetery. The cemetery  was expanded in 2018 and is open to modern burials. Lots are available for purchase in the new addition to the north. 

Newcomb Cemetery

Located on the south side of Patterson Mill road about .5 mile east of Route 131 adjacent to the west side of the Fairview cemetery. Lots are available for purchase and the cemetery is open to modern burials. 

Newcomb Cemetery was approved in the fall of 2025 to expand to the south to include a new Green Burial Cemetery, slated to be open to burials in 2027. Work will begin on the new cemetery in November of 2025.

Old Settlers Cemetery

About 1 mile west on Route 1 from the Iron Bridge at the Thomaston-Warren line, take Old Settler's Road to the east. The cemetery is on the left about .4 mile from Route 1, just before reaching the river. This is an ancient burial ground and no modern burials are permitted. 

This is a walk-in cemetery only. Park at the chain gate and walk down the dirt road to the cemetery. Please do not block the driveway of the adjacent land owner.

Peterborough Cemetery

Located approximately 1.3 miles west of Route 1 via Sandy Shores Road and Bunker Hill Road. The cemetery is accessible by walk-in only down a dirt road about 200 yards from the cemetery sign.  Please use caution while parking along Bunker Hill Road and do not block any adjacent driveways. 

This historic cemetery primarily served the local Black community—believed to have been the largest in Maine. While the earliest visible gravestone dates back to the 1850's, evidence suggests that burials began as early as the early 1800'sOral history has indicated that there may be up to 100 unmarked graves here, and many individuals known to have lived in the community remain undocumented as to their final resting place. Modern burials are only open to descendants of the historical Peterborough community.

Pleasantville Cemetery

Located in north Warren on the east side of Route 131, about 1.2 miles south from the Union line. While the cemetery has three access gates, we ask that you park outside of the cemetery and walk in. The cemetery is open to modern burials and has burial lots for sale.

Post Cemetery

Located adjacent to the west of Blake Cemetery at the corner of Route 235 and Western Road. Post Cemetery was originally known as the Finn Cemetery and was opened in the early 1940's. It was deeded to the Town of Warren by Vince and Beth Ahlholm in 2025. The cemetery is open to modern burials.

Riverview Cemetery

Located behind and west of the Baptist Church, approximately 100 yards north of Main Street at the top of the hill just west of the village. The cemetery is also visible from Route 90, about halfway between Western Road and the river. The cemetery is open to modern burials.

Sawyer Cemetery

Located in the western part of the town off of Route 1, on Stirling Road. Adjacent to the east side of the Stirling Cemetery. The cemetery is open to modern burials and has lots for sale.

 

Skinner Cemetery

Located in the eastern part of town on the east side of Mountain Road, approximately 0.5 miles north of Route 90. This cemetery incorporates the historic Crane Cemetery, which was relocated from about a mile south. The cemetery is open to modern burials.

Stahl Cemetery

Located in the southwestern part of town, this cemetery is accessed by taking Finntown Road south from Route 1. Pass Nihlo Hill Road on the left, then continue about 200 feet further. Turn right onto a seasonal woods road and proceed approximately 0.3 miles. The cemetery is on the left, about 50 feet from the road, directly opposite a small gravel pit. This is an ancient burial ground and no modern burials are permitted. 

This is a walk-in cemetery only. Visitors should park on Finntown Road and walk down the dirt road to the cemetery. Please do not block the gate, and exercise caution when parking along the road.

Starrett Cemetery

Located on the north side of Middle Road, approximately 100 yards east of the Georges River. The cemetery is open to modern burials.

Stirling Cemetery

Situated in the western part of town off of Route 1, on the Stirling Road. The cemetery lies adjacent to the west side of Sawyer Cemetery. This cemetery is open to modern burials and is accessible by walk-in only.

Town Cemetery

Due to its irregular layout, this cemetery is divided into three distinct sections, North, Center and South - with burials primarily organized by rows within each area. Situated on the south side of Main Street, west of the post office and directly opposite the Civil War monument. The oldest gravestone here dates back to 1792 and bears the inscription: “The first stone in this yard.” There are numerous unmarked graves, many believed—according to local accounts—to belong to town paupers. Records for these individuals are scarce or nonexistent.

Watts Cemetery

Located on the south side of Route 90, about 1 mile east from Route 131. The cemetery was used in the mid 1830's and is open to modern burials.
