Voter Registration

Maine residents may register to vote at any time, including on Election Day.

If you live in Warren, you may register:

To register to vote, you must provide:

  • Proof of identity (e.g., driver’s license)

  • Proof of residency (must show a physical street address in Warren — not a P.O. Box)

There is no deadline for IN-PERSON registration at your town office or city hall.
However, if registering by mail or through a voter registration drive, or online, your application must be received by the close of business 21 days before the election.

Updating Your Voter Registration

Maine recognizes four qualified political parties:

  • Democrat

  • Republican

  • Green Independent

  • Libertarian

  • Other (voters may currently choose "No Labels" or "Constitutional Party" as other)

Voters may also choose to remain unenrolled (independent of any party).

Changing Political Party Enrollment

State law requires certain waiting periods for party enrollment changes:

  • If switching from one party to another, you must wait 15 days before voting in that party’s primary, caucus, or convention

  • Unenrolled voters may join a party at any time, including on Election Day. 

Currently UNENROLLED VOTERS may choose one ballot from any party at primary elections.

  • Once enrolled in a party, you must stay enrolled for at least 3 months before changing or withdrawing

  • If you withdraw from a party, you must wait 15 days before enrolling in a new one

Closed Period Registration

During the 20 business days before any election, voter registration is only available:

  • In person at the Town Office

  • At the polls on Election Day at the Registrar’s Table

New residents must present proof of identity and Warren residency to be added to the voter list.

Registrar Hours

In accordance with Title 21-A MRSA §101(6), the Registrar of Voters is available during the following hours (as approved by the Board of Selectmen on December 26, 2024):

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

  • Thursday: 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
