Animal Control
Warren is dedicated to ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of all animals and those who care for them in our community.
What We Do
Our Animal Control Officer (ACO) enforces Maine’s state-mandated licensing and animal care laws, assists in handling stray or nuisance animals, and investigates cases of animal neglect or cruelty. All dogs aged six months and older must be licensed annually — between October 15 and January 31 — and valid rabies vaccination documentation is required.
Dog Licensing
-
Licenses can be purchased online or at the Town Office during regular hours.
-
A late fee of $25 applies after January 30.
-
Please bring a current rabies certificate—whether it's a new license or a renewal.
Lost & Found Pets
-
If you have lost a pet, contact the ACO and local animal shelters promptly.
-
If you find a dog, Maine law requires it be held in a shelter for at least six days to allow the owner to claim it.
-
Found cats should also be brought in or reported so we can work toward a safe reunion.
