Georges River Regional Shellfish Management

In 1996, the towns of Cushing, St. George, South Thomaston, Thomaston and Warren passed the Georges River Shellfish Management Ordinance at their respective Town Meetings.  Since that time, the Georges River Shellfish Management Interlocal Joint Board and Shellfish Committee have operated with objective of managing the resources of the inter-tidal zones of the Georges River Region that are open to shellfish harvesting. 

Through a thoughtful licensing, and limitations program, mandatory conservation work, as well as river opening and seeding programs, the GRRSM has successfully managed the shellfish resources that continue to contribute to our local economy, as the shellfish industry has for centuries.

The GRRSM Joint Board and Shellfish Committee are dedicated to resource management for current and future shellfish harvesters, both commercial and recreational.  The GRRSM is an effective way to preserve the cooperative effort between the towns and successfully continue to implement the Management Plans and Ordinance.
