Animal Control

Warren is dedicated to ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of all animals and those who care for them in our community.

Animal Control Officer: Heidi Blood (207) 322‑3237 (call or text) or email her at hjb04915@yahoo.com

What We Do

Our Animal Control Officer (ACO) enforces Maine’s state-mandated licensing and animal care laws, assists in handling stray or nuisance animals, and investigates cases of animal neglect or cruelty. All dogs aged six months and older must be licensed annually — between October 15 and January 31 — and valid rabies vaccination documentation is required.

Dog Licensing

  • Licenses can be purchased online (only from October 15th through January 31st) or at the Town Office during regular hours.

  • A late fee of $25 applies after January 31st for previously licensed dogs - new dogs being licensed for the first time are not charged this fee

  • Please bring a current rabies certificate—when it's a new license or if for a renewal license if your dog has had it's booster.

  • Please bring in a spay/neuter certificate if your pet has been spayed or neutered since the previous years license.

Lost & Found Pets

  • If you have lost a pet, contact the ACO and local animal shelters promptly.

  • If you find a dog, Maine law requires it be held in a shelter for at least six days to allow the owner to claim it.

  • Found cats should also be reported to the ACO and local animal shelter so that we can work toward a safe reunion.
